Odisha won three medals, including one gold in the National Schools Chess Championship, which was held at New Delhi from October to 27 to 29. Medal winners included Saina Salonika, Rutumbara Bidhar and Mahitosh Dey. Saina Salonika of Bhubaneswar won title in under-9 girls category, scoring 8.5 point from nine rounds. The youngest Woman Candidate Master of the state, Saina won eight out of her nine games and drew the remaining one against Manya Bagla.
Woman Fide Master Rutumbara Bidhar, also from Bhubaneswar, secured a silver medal as she occupied the second position in under-11 girls` group, collecting seven points. She won seven games and lost the remaining two. Mahitosh Dey, a student of Chandrasekharpur DAV Public School, Bhubaneswar, pocketed the bronze medal, finishing third in the under-9 open category with seven wins and two defeats.
